A hobbies and life update
Catch up on what I’ve been up to with my hobbies and life while I was away.
Welcome back to Hobbyisms! It’s been a little while since I’ve regularly posted on Hobbyisms, so I wanted to provide a hobbies and life update. Let’s dive into it.
Hobbies
Knitting
In November, I originally started working on a new sweater (ended up sidelining that one for now) and instead began knitting a Celtic cable knit Christmas stocking. I have been intrigued by Celtic cable knitting patterns from the first time I came across them. The more experienced I have become with knitting, the more I have started embarking on these more elaborate techniques. I usually begin with a low stakes project such as home décor before applying those same techniques to garments or accessories; it’s a good way to get the hang of the technique and figure out ways to make the outcome for wearable items look much nicer.
I had no idea how long it would take to knit a Christmas stocking and whether it would be feasible to have two completed in time for Christmas. Good thing I started early, though, as this project was quite the undertaking! I’m currently working on stocking number two now, and so long as I can complete it before the end of the year, I am good with that timeline. Once I’m done with the stockings, I look forward to continuing to work toward my goal of handknitting all the sweaters in my wardrobe, which will take quite a while!
Singing
As earlier stated, another large focus of mine has been singing. Specifically, continuing to improve and strengthen my voice.
Singing is something I have always enjoyed doing, but it was only this year that I became serious about vocal technique (and, more specifically, healthy and sustainable vocal technique). November included more vocal exercises, troubleshooting, and applying these techniques to actual songs.
In my short time writing for Hobbyisms thus far, this is my first time mentioning singing as one of my music hobbies. There is much more I will share about singing since I find it so enjoyable, but that will be another post in and of itself.
Hobbyisms
Would this hobbies update even be complete if I did not mention Hobbyisms as one of my hobbies? I tapped the breaks on Hobbyisms in November to focus on the aforementioned hobbies and other life matters.
Now that all of that is in a good spot, I will be doing more consistent writing for Hobbyisms and have established sound processes for the administrative side of this hobby. Be sure to stick around for what’s to come; I have a whole topic lineup planned out!
Life
Now onto a life update. In the time I’ve been gone from Hobbyisms, and in addition to the hobbies I did continue working on, I further optimized my processes for making progress. There is a specific framework I created for removing blockages that hindered me from moving forward with certain personal and work projects.
It took several months of refinement to settle on a process that fully does what I need it to. After all that time and effort, it was super exciting to start using it for projects that seemed to be a bit stalled or slow to start (including Hobbyisms). I am already making great progress with this framework, and it is moving me in the direction I hoped it would.
The point is: sometimes there is benefit in peeling back on some projects/hobbies a bit to optimize processes. Now that I have established consistency with some specific projects and I am making incremental progress with those, I can now start to reintroduce some other undertakings I sidelined to make incremental progress with those as well.
What’s Next
So that’s my hobbies and life update! I am excited to be more consistent with Hobbyisms, share more about my creative hobby projects, and provide insights to help you embark on your own. Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming posts and emails; there are many interesting topics underway.
Happy hobbying!
