The beginning of a new hobby: Hobbyisms
Learn how and why I started Hobbyisms.
Welcome to Hobbyisms! This Substack will be dedicated to all things hobbies, slow living, and life enrichment. To introduce myself, my name is Olivia, and I am what I’d consider a self-proclaimed hobbyist. I have always had a project or three going at any given time, and I get a thrill from the enjoyable, the challenging, and the mind-boggling moments that come with having hobbies.
I have embarked on a myriad of projects with varying scopes over the years, many of those which had a defined endpoint and other ongoing projects that I ended for one reason or another. Hobbyisms is one of those projects that will evolve as it does based on how it resonates with you and everyone else who happens to stumble upon it.
Here’s a little bit about myself. I have always done my own thing and pursued whatever I found interesting. My interests are vastly different than that of the common Gen Z archetype, and I have always leaned into what speaks to me. And let me say… there is a lot that does. With fairly limited time outside of a professional office setting, I still find a way to get around to the hobbies I value the most. Stick around to see how I do it.
Now onto what my hobbies actually are! I have all the hobbies I do because they all bring me personal fulfillment in different ways. At one point, I had so many that I had to become more deliberate about which I wanted to pursue to really become good at those and make meaningful progress. The hobbies I actively practice now are knitting, singing, and song composition. There are some learning based hobbies I want to make more time for as well, which include learning music theory and how to play the Native American flute. I do enjoy taking walks and baking my own bread as well (mostly with a bread maker). And I am always up to trying activities that are outside of my purview.
My hope for Hobbyisms is that it inspires someone to do what inspires them and live their best life. Life is too short to keep putting off that project or hobby that seems out of reach but is more attainable than you think. Together, let’s start that hobby and keep it going. You will thank yourself years down the line for a life well lived.
